Snap, the company behind the Snapdchat app is trying its luck for the third time with the announcement of the laminated reality glasses Spectacles 3, despite the lack of success of the previous generation and even a significant increase in the new model.
Spectacles 3 goggles remain a little strange, but the function remains the same: real-time photography including short-term 3D effects and filters and sharing them directly in the Snapchat app. The significant innovation in the new generation is the addition of a camera, so there are now a pair of HD cameras.
Snap has made a few other changes to Spectacles 3 glasses and is now able to apply 3D effects that it has developed itself. According to the company, later this year it will also allow third-party developers to offer their own 3D effects. Beyond that, the company has not yet provided any additional technical details.
The glasses will come in black and gold, with the lightweight metal frame featuring round lenses that are resistant to sunlight and allow adjustments to the anchors at the end. They are capable of shooting up to 70 videos and about 200 images, in 4GB of storage and fully charged within 75 minutes on a USB-C connection.
Spectacles 3 goggles should be available this fall. You can also pre-order them for $ 380 – more than twice the Spectacles 2 costing $ 150.
