Samsung has launched SmartThings Find, a new service for its customers that will help locate lost gadgets. While the company’s previous application, Find My Mobile, was only able to locate phones, SmartThings Find was also able to locate tablets, smartphones and headphones.

The service also works in case the devices are not connected to the cellular network, using various means of reception and short-term transmission such as BLE (low-power Bluetooth). You can view the approximate location of the products on the map, try and locate them through the camera using the Augmented Reality feature, and also remotely send them a command to activate a ringtone – to make them easier to find. It is not clear from Samsung’s announcement whether the service continues to work even when the device it is trying to locate is turned off.

The SmartThings Find service is active worldwide, and is available on any device based on the Android 8 operating system or later in updating or downloading the existing application . At the beginning of next year, Samsung promises to add support for tracking tags that can be attached to objects and devices, so that non-Samsung gadgets can be found using the service, and even objects that are not digital at all, such as wallets or keys with smart tags.
