Maze has today launched its first project of its kind in the world – navigating the app during tunnel travel to and from underground car parks by using Waze Beacons. The new technology was installed on the Arya Luba Eliav road in collaboration with the beach estates in the underground parking lot under the Sharona Complex and the Government College in Tel Aviv, and it will also allow navigation on the underground street.
Waze Beacons are devices that tunnel to the tunnel walls and allow GPS reception underground. Proprietary technology has been available to date in the Carmel tunnels and in other tunnels around the world, as published in GeekTime . Collaboration with the ‘Beach Estates’ on Eliav Road is considered to be the first time in the world that the technology has been implemented for underground navigation at the entrance and exit of car parks.
“I am very pleased that our beacon project is coming to Tel Aviv, and for the first time – in favor of a tunnel used as a foyer for underground parking spaces. “Even underground,” said Gil Distnik , the company’s beacon manager.
The beacons, as mentioned, are useful not only in underground car parks but also in tunnels. After the installation on the tunnel walls or the beacon can communicate with drivers’ phones passing on the road through Bluetooth connectivity. Drivers can know exactly what the traffic and load situation is and what their location is, as well as where exactly to turn. At the same time, drivers who want to plan the route with Wise will be able to get an accurate indication of traffic and load conditions even within tunnels.
